STEEL SOCCER TEAM READY FOR PHILLIES
Speedy Quaker City Booters Play Here Tomorrow Afternoon
BOSTON VS. SPRINGFIELD
Bethlehem’s champion soccer aggregation went through the final paces on Thursday afternoon in priming for the important Christmas Day clash with the Philadelphia F. C. when two important league points will be at stake. While the league leaders are battling with the Phillies, Boston, the runner-up for the honors, will be engaged in a game on the home grounds against Springfield. The Hub dribblers have a dual bill over the weekend, meeting Providence at the latter place on Sunday.

Must Beat Phillies
Some interest is manifest in the Boston engagement, but locally the game with the Phillies is commanding the greater interest for this is a game the league leaders need to keep their standing secure. Boston is traveling at a fast paced and should win both games. However, the unexpected has frequently occurred this season with the Phillies one of the dangerous to upset the dope.

In the final practice yesterday afternoon the club sized up fairly well and indications were that the champions have a representative crowd on the pitch to battle for the honors. The defensive strength will not in the least be impaired for all of the regulars will be available for their positions and the reserves ready to jump into action if an emergency occurs.

The Phillies will field the same club that was successful in downing Fall River last Saturday. In Marshall at center forward the Quakers believe they have the season’s find. An outside forward prior to the last two games, Marshall seems best at home at the pivot position and has developed into one of the most dangerous shots in the circuit.

The champions will hardly make a runaway affair of the game. In fact, they have practiced with the same determination and spirit as they do when preparing for any other club. While confidence reigns supreme, the Steelmen are not taking the Phillies cheaply and realize they will have to be at their best for their foemen.

Stark May Play
That either Stark or Johnny Granger will be back in the lineup was given as a probability. Stark recovered rapidly from his leg injury and while the management would no doubt rather have him rest up for this game the brilliant goal scorer’s enthusiasm to be in the lineup may encourage the management to select him. Perhaps Stark and Granger will alternate in the position, each one playing a half of the game. With Stark at inside right and Gillespie at center forward, the front line will be intact.

With the Phillies much interest will center around the play of William Reid, an Irish star, who is claimed to be the best wing halfback in the American League. Whether he is better than Bethlehem’s veteran celebrities will be demonstrated in the game on Christmas Day afternoon.

The Walder duo will be here to take charge of the contest. James Walder will referee and his brother, Johnny Walder, will be one of the linesmen. The kickoff will be promptly at 2:30 o’clock. The probable lineup:

Bethlehem – Philadelphia
Edwards – G – Pearce
Barrie – RFB – McAdams
Eadie – LFB – Gregg
McDonald – RHB – W. Reid
Carnihan – CHB – McLaughlin
MacGregor – LHB -- Pitts
Jaap – OR – Hogg
