Robert's surname was spelled GREIG on his birth certificate. Robert volunteered for Army Service during World War I at 17 years of age. After returning from active duty in Europe with the Royal Scots Regiment he started his career as a football player in Scotland. He emigrated to USA via Canada in May 1926 to join the newly formed North American Football League.

Robert met and married Margaret Perry and they lived and worked in Canada, and then America where their first two children, Margaret & Robert were born. They then returned to Scotland in late C.1934 and later to Suffolk England. They lived and worked on an agricultural smallholding at Newborn - where in 1940 son Archibald was born. During World War II they moved to Ipswich where they remained for the rest of their lives. Alexander was born in Sunderland County Durham in 1944. Margaret his mother had temporarily travelled there for the birth.

Robert died aged 56 on 4 Nov 1955 at Ipswich Suffolk England. An elder brother John died in Ballochmyle Hospital Ayrshire earlier that same year aged 69. Two 'comedians' in that Robert was born and baptised GREIG and used GREGG whereas John was born and baptised GREGG and used GREIG!

We The Mayor Alderman and Burgess of the Borough of Ipswich (hereinafter called " the Corporation" being the Burial Authority for the purposes of the Burial Acts 1852 to 1906 for the County Borough of Ipswich aforesaid IN CONSIDERATION of the sum of £4.(Four Pounds) to us paid by Margaret Gregg of 32 Dover Road Ipswich ("herinafter called the Grantee") do hereby grant unto the Grantee the exclusive right of burial in a piece of ground measuring four feet wide and eight feet long in section UB Division in the Ipswich Cemetery and which piece of ground is numbered 210 in the register of purchased graves and on the plan of the said cemetery TO HOLD the same unto the Grantee in perpetuity for the purpose of burial subject nevertheless to the provisions of the said Acts and to the fees and regulations payable and in force for the time being respecting the said Cemetery or the portion thereof in which the said piece of ground is situate and subject to the following conditions:-
No human ashes or cremated remains shall at any time be interred in or strewn or placed upon the said piece of ground which is subject of this Grant or in or upon any monument gravestone or tablet errected thereon Provided that this condition shall cease to have effect on the interment in the said piece of ground of any human remains which have not been cremated.

Emigrated to Canada in July 1925 following her older sisters Marion and Charlotte. Married Robert Paton Gregg whom she met through her brother Archie also living in Canada at that time. Robert and Archie were colleagues in professional football teams. Margaret and Robert returned to England in mid 1930's. Margaret lived at Ipswich Suffolk from 1941 to 1995. She died aged 89 and is the second longest surviving family member[2011] within these records
