Jeff Higgins - June 2004:
Child 5.Janet Gregg, born 08 Aug 1855 at Dalreoch, Colmonell and according to the birth entry she was the 5th child, 2 boys and 3 girls living. Janet lived with her parents until she emigrated.
At Ellis Island website and found the following...
John Greig, 56, arrived in New York aboard the "Caledonia" on 07 Jul 1907, he was on his way to see his sister Mrs Janet Kelly in Seneca. He was a shepherd and lived in Pinwherry, Ayrshire.
John Greig, 62, arrived in New York again aboard the Caledonia (superstitious perhaps) on 14 Apr 1913, he was on his way to see his sister Mrs Janet Kelly in Seneca. He was a shepherd and he gave his brother Ivan Gregg, in Ballantrae, as a contact.
These seem to be the only TWO occasions that John visited

The line for Agnes Kelly, daughter of Alexander and Agnes Gregg.
Agnes married David Fisher, son of David Fisher and Elizabeth Lieshman. David and his brothers James and (William) Andrew came to the U.S. from Rerrick Parish, Kirkcudbright in 1870. There father, a farmer, had died three years before. They left three sisters and their mother behind. They were following their neighbours, the McBrides and within days of arriving James married Margaret McBride and Andrew married her sister Barbara. Andrew and Barbara left within a few years for New Zealand.
David Fisher filed his naturalization intent (along with his brother Andrew) on the 26 Mar 1872.
David and Agnes were married on 28 Dec 1877 by the Rev. R.J. McCready---presumably in Scotch Valley (source Scotch Valley History)

The Scotch Valley history syas, "With five sons in the family, land was high priced in Kansas, more land could be bought in Canada at cheaper prices." So the family emigrated to Alberta (then still the Northwest Territories), Canada in 1903. This was the same year that brother James Fisher and some members of the Kelly family emigrated to Alberta. In 1911 Agnes Kelly Fisher was living in Ray, Alberta (which I've been told is near Edmonton but I can't find for the life of me. I also have to say that this branch of the family has disappeared off the face of the earth but then the Fisher men NEVER talked about family.)

From Gloria Cathcart Canada -June 2004:
I am a great granddaughter to James Kelly born June 10, 1859, and died March
9, 1939. As a 10 year old he emigrated to Kansas and is listed in the Scotch
Valley write-up. Then in 1901 he came to Alberta, Canada, bringing his
family of 10 (little Agnes was buried in Scotch Valley) in 1902.. Another
baby, Nellie, was born in Alberta. (Nellie was midwife at my birth.)
James and his family farmed, but he was not a farmer at heart, was known for
his work as a minister and was known as Preacher Kelly. In 1913 he received
special ordination and then was officially the Reverend James Kelly, but
still fondly called preacher Kelly. He served for 32 years prior to retiring
in 1934 at the age of 74. He died 3 months prior to his 80th birthday.
My birth occurred 3 weeks prior to his death. My parents attended his
funeral and I have visited his gravesite a number of times. One of the many
churches in which he preached, one that he started, is where I first
attended church. It still stands today.
I have vague recollections of great grandma Ellen and some of the older
children, and certainly remember a number of the others much more clearly.
My grandmother was Alice, the firstborn of the twins.
I have been trying since last summer to make a listing of the descendents of
Rev. James Kelly, 10 of the 12 having issue. I certainly have enjoyed
meeting many of the second and third cousins. I have much work yet to do.
For some time now I have been corresponding with Shannon E Kelly, since his
great grandfather John Kelly was the older brother to my great grandfather
James Kelly. Sister Agnes Kelly married David Fisher (of the Fishers Three
in Scotch Valley), and they too came to this same part of Alberta, Canada.
I have been keenly interested in your website and will continue to follow it
and search for some answers.
Sincerely, Gloria Cathcart
