He was a Pit headman.

John married Miss Jean Taylor THOMSON  on 2 Jun 1865 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. Jean was born on 26 Nov 1843 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. She died on 11 Apr 1925 in Stevenston, Ayrshire.

They had the following children:

               2 F          i.  Miss Jane GREIG  was born on 20 Sep 1864 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. She died on 1 Aug 1875 in Farmers Row, Kilwinning, Ayrshire.

               6 M       v.  Mr Archibald Thomson GREIG  was born on 10 Jun 1874 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. He died on 15 May 1938 in New Street, Stevenston, Ayrshire.

DEAT:  Arterio-sclerosis; Coronary artery sclerosis, 1 year.

 He was a Bricklayer and unmarried.

               7 F        vi.  Miss Mary GREIG  was born on 26 Mar 1877 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. She died on 27 Sep 1898 in Chemical Row, Stevenston, Ayrshire.

               8 F       vii.  Miss Jeanie GREIG  was born on 25 Mar 1879. She died on 25 Feb 1881 in Farmers Row, Kilwinning, Ayrshire.

               9 M     viii.  Mr James GREIG  was born on 19 Dec 1884. He died on 15 Jan 1886 in Farmer's Row, Kilwinning, Ayrshire.

+         10 M       ix.  Mr Robert GREIG  was born on 29 Dec 1886. He died on 30 Dec 1933.

 

Second Generation

      3. Mr William GREIG  (John) was born on 27 Jan 1867 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. He died on 28 Jul 1942 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. He was a Labourer and Bricklayer.

William married Miss Agnes FERGUSON  on 30 Jun 1893 in Main Street, Kilwinning, Ayrshire. Agnes was born on 28 Mar 1868 in Irvine, Ayrshire. She died on 1 Aug 1947 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. She was a Domestic servant.

William and Agnes had the following children:

             11 M        i.  Mr John GREIG  was born on 10 Apr 1894 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. He died after 1947. Was an Engine fitter and Mechanical engineer. He died in Stevenston on 22 Feb 1964. He was married twice, first (in New Ardrossan in 1921) to Isabella Biggins ALLAN (born c.1899; died New Ardrossan 3 Feb 1923); second (in Stevenston on 15 Jun 1928) to Mary S DICKIE (maiden surname HALBERT) (a Shop assistant, born c.1895). John and Mary had at least two daughters who married and are quite possibly still living, so I shall keep their details confidential for the present.

             12 F         ii.  Miss Agnes Gardener GREIG  was born on 2 Apr 1896 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. She died on 2 Jul 1924 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. She was a Clerkess.

             13 M       iii.  Mr William GREIG  was born on 12 Nov 1898 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. He died on 2 Dec 1898 in Stevenston, Ayrshire.

             14 F        iv.  Miss Jeanie GREIG  was born on 6 Apr 1900 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. She died on 27 May 1901 in Stevenston, Ayrshire.

             15 M       v.  Mr William GREIG  was born on 6 Apr 1900 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. He died on 26 Oct 1913 in Stevenston, Ayrshire.

             16 M       vi.  Mr Charles GREIG  was born on 20 Sep 1903 in Chemical Row, Stevenston, Ayrshire.

      4. Miss Margaret GREIG  "Maggie" (John) was born on 13 Jun 1869 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. She died on 3 Jan 1947 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. She was a Dressmaker.

Margaret married Mr William JEFFREY . William died before 1947. He was a Bricklayer.

William and Margaret had the following children:

    10. Mr Robert GREIG  (John) was born on 29 Dec 1886 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire. He died on 30 Dec 1933 in Stevenston, Ayrshire. He was a Bricklayer.

Robert married Miss Mary Conn BONE  on 25 Sep 1914 in Stevenston United Free Church Manse. Mary was born about 1885. She was a Dynamite worker.

Robert and Mary had the following children:
