As James was a sailor we can assume Margaret was born in his absence whilst at sea and the child was christened on his return. We do not as yet know if the couple married.

I have a copy of a death certificate (RD586/00 0005) for a Stewart Guthrie - joiner- married to Margaret Greig. The date of death is given as 24 February 1899. His age is given as 74. The informant is his son James Guthrie
