Jane GUTHRIE {F} [P433] = James GREG {M} [P432] > Family [F195]
Married 6 Mar 1722, Ayr Ayrs Scotland IGI - M11963-1
Jane GUTHRIE
Alias Jane GREG (EST 1722)
Born EST 1697, Ayr?
We know Jane's father was named John Guthrie. On OPR's birth/baptism for Janes daughters Jane and Anna, John Guthrie of Ladykirk witness, was stated to be grand-father to the children.
James GREG
Born EST 1682, Ayr Ayrs?
Died EST 1739, Ayr
OCCUPATION: Tailor/Deacon/Conven
SOURCE: OPR's of marriige&ch
In all parish records James Greg's trade is spelled 'taylor' for present day tailor.
James estimated age 25 married Elizabeth Kirkwood in 1707, aged 40 married Jane Guthrie in 1722 and finally aged 53 to Elizabeth Rogerson in 1733.
It appears James died before 1740 when Elizabeth Rogerson married John Meikle[IGI]. Her step-daughter Mary Greg previously married a John Meikle in 1731. It is as yet[ADG1997] uncertain as to whether it was the same John Meikle! (did he, perhaps as a widower to Mary Greg, marry his also widowed mother-in-law??)
Note: The name MEIKLE appears again in 1730 as James Meikle(also' late deacon to the taylors'), being witness to the baptism of Anna Greg(daughter to James Greg and Jane Guthrie).
James produced 4 boys and 1 girl in his marriage with Elizabeth Kirkwood, and 5 girls in his marriage to Jane Guthrie. He would have been 53 by the time he married Elizabeth Rogerson and assuming his date of birth to be correct died probably aged 59.(Unless there were earlier marriages and the estimated d.o.b is incorrect.
The wife of this family has not yet been determind[ADG1997]
