5 November 2008

And the name of the city from that time on will be: THE LORD IS THERE.  (Ezekiel 48:35)

Release!Ipswich:
In June I e-mailed asking if there were any people out there who would be interested in doing somw 'drugs educator' training with HOPE UK, and had several enquiries.  It would be really good if we could follow this up.  Below is part of the e-mail that HOPE sent me regarding it.  If you are still interested or have now become interested, it would be great to get this going in Ipswich next year.  Please contact me again, and also I would like someone to be the liaiser if we do get enough people, to sort out training dates etc.  Any responses?  Please pray for the 'education' part of the Release!Ipswich vision, which is not happening too much at the moment.
Are there any churches / youth groups/ schools who would like to know more about eating disorders?  Restore is able to give a presentation / session  on this..............
Hope UK say:

"We would only need 6 people who want to volunteer with Hope UK in Ipswich in order to be able to run a training course there. With regard to the format and timing of the training that would depend in large part upon what was best for those who apply. The course consists of 4 sections, each of which we would normally hold over an evening, and then the following morning and afternoon. However exactly how and where these are delivered we can be flexible about, and would want to discuss this with those who decide to do the training. For instance we could:

 -          cover all 4 sections over just 2 weekends.

-          or alternatively do a Friday evening and then Saturday morning and afternoon, which would then be spread over 4 weekends.

-          a third alternative would be to run the training on weekdays if that was preferable."

Please pray for the meeting taking place this Friday afternoon between representatives of Release!Ipswich and Trustees of the 'Somebody's Daughter' campaign

Perspectives -

Evaluate..informing choice. Praise the Lord we have 4 educators trained now to deliver the sex and relationship package in schools and more people interested. We have 3 bookings for schools after Christmas, and with the governments present emphasis on sex and relationship education please pray that this will provide an opportunity to get into more schools.
We would find it very useful to have a technical helper on the team, it may suit a semi-retired or self employed person who would be able to set up our p.a equipment and manage the sound desk during the presentations. Please contact Michelle on 425674 or at evaluate.ipswich@ntlworld.com  if you are able to help.

CYM: One Christmas
-          Please pray for the children, parents and teaching staff who will be hearing what Christmas is really about

-          Please pray for the team, in particular that we can be a good witness for Jesus in the schools.

-          Please pray that the relationship between local churches and schools can be strengthened by this project so that organisations like CYM can continue to have input into the lives of local children through schools.

-          Safety – particularly when we have large numbers of children at concerts.

-          For the work of Tearfund, to whom the proceeds from One Christmas will be going.

Visit www.c-y-m.org.uk for more details on the project

Ipswich Seafarers Centre: Are desperate for mens jumpers (good condition please) and woolly hats.  If you are able to contribute please contact Helen Page  shorty.page@tiscali.co.uk to organise delivery or collection.  Similarly if you would like to begin knitting woolly hats, or have spare wool for those who do................

Please pray for the work of the Seafarers Centre, both in Ipswich and also at Felixstowe.  Pray for the seafarers who visit our port now that the weather conditions at sea are seasonally deteriorating

Burlington Baptist Church: We have a baptism taking place at our church on Sunday 11th January.  Some of the friends and family of the lady being baptised are deaf.  We would very much like to have a Christian signer present to allow them to feel completely part of the service and the baptism.  Is there a signer out there who would be able to attend?  Please contact Katie Ruffles -
  pa.seniorminister@burlingtonbaptist.org.uk

5 November 2008

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble.  Psalm 37:39

Thanks to all those who prayed over the weekend.  Here is some feedback -

From the Evening Star: Suffolk police reported fewer incidents of anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related violence and disorder around pubs and clubs on Friday.  Inspector Bruce Gent said, (speaking generally), "There were no significant Halloween-related incidents and no Halloween-related arrests."
Pete Wood: (TP team leader for Friday night and 7 - 10pm shift on Saturday in Christchurch Park);
Friday probably saw more people around than for a regular Friday, but that said not as many as I was expecting.  Apart from 2 or 3 incidents the evening passed off relatively quietly without there appearing to be many people who had had far too much to drink - certainly a lot fewer than you would get on a normal Saturday shall we say. I think this is borne out from the comments coming from Suffolk police today saying that there were far less Halloween related incidents this year. In a similar vein the fireworks in the park went off very quietly, perhaps the wet weather had something to do with it. People mainly came late and went soon after the fireworks had finished and there was no trouble in the park as far as we could see. I as Team Leader certainly felt God's presence Friday and Saturday and have no doubt whatsoever that the extra prayer that was taking place certainly worked.
Paul Daltry: (TP Team leader 10pm - 4am shift Saturday)  Saturday evening went really as normal. The big challenge was to have no Town Link radio as it had gone down, but thankfully Neil was in the CCTV room and we used mobiles to keep in contact with him. We will need to review what happens without the radios for the future in case it happens again. Neil wasn’t too happy about us staying out, but I checked with the team and they were OK. Overall it was no different or even maybe slightly quieter than a normal Saturday night. Maybe the rain helped that, apart from one incident with underage teens in Westgate as we were changing over the two teams.

Please pray for the Town Pastor teams this weekend:
Friday November 7th:
Mark Firmin (Team leader - Bridge); Sam Gibbs (St John's); Yvonne Cross (Rushmere Baptist); Barbara Willingham (St Luke's)  Saturday November 8th: Simon Beddus (Tema leader - St Helen's); Norman Cox (Mistley Free Church); John Russell / Daren Wood (St John's - both out on their first shift); Laura Stafford (Orwell); Sheila Pugh (St Margaret's); Miranda Gibbs (St John's)

World AIDS Day: December 1st - The World AIDS day service this year will take place at 6pm at St Mary's Stoke, followed at 8pm by a documentary film at the Corn Exchange (Hollywood Film Theatre) titled "We are together".  Please pray for the devastation that AIDS is causing in other parts of the world, but also for those affected locally.

Date for the diary: Crown Him with Many Crowns will take place at St John's on Saturday 17th January at 7.30pm.  Each year we celebrate what God has done for us here in Ipswich over the past year and commit the town to him for the year ahead.  It is always a great praise and prayer filled evening with lots of encouragement.  The evening will include, amongst other updates, further exciting news about 'Heart for Ipswich'.  Please book the date now............

Yours in Christ, Liz

31 October 2008

The One Christmas project will record hundreds of children from local primary schools on a professional quality CD and DVD. In December, the children will also have the opportunity to perform the songs live at the Spa Pavilion Felixstowe with a live band. Sales of the CD, DVD and concert tickets all raise money for Tearfund. More information about One Christmas can be found at www.onechristmas.org.uk

30 October 2008

Please find attached prayer points for those who have signed up for a slot tomorrow or Saturday.  I am still looking to fill half hour slots from 3.30 - 4am on Friday October 31st and midday - 1pm / 2.30 - 3.30pm on Saturday November 1st.  Could you help?  If you have not signed for a slot please take 30 minutes to pray at some point over the 48 hours from midnight tonight through to midnight on Saturday night.
Let's really pray hard over this period, together, and make it very different to last year.  The police and others are watching!

Remember: Come down to Ipswich International Church (Barrack Corner) any time between 8pm and 11pm on tomorrow (Friday 31st) to join others in prayer as we come before God united as HIs people in Ipswich to pray for His town.  We would love to see a huge army assembled!!!  We may come from different backgrounds, different praying and worshipping traditions, but we're all in this together as we seek to see the Kingdom of God move forward here and lives and society being changed...........

There are different kinds of gifts but the same Spirit distributes them.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.  (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)

On behalf of the IIP team - Thank you.
Liz.

21 October 2008

Hi everyone
Sorry there has been a big gap since the last e-mail.  I have been busy, away, ill, and encountering computer problems, in various combinations!  I am sorry if I have missed anything - please e-mail me again for next week if your prayer requests are still relevant.
Meanwhile; THIS WEEK!

Friday 31st October: Join us at Ipswich International Church (Barrack Corner) from 8pm onwards this Friday evening to pray on this crucial night and weekend for the town.  With Halloween followed by fireworks in Christhchurch Park on Saturday, Ipswich is vulnerable.  We will be praying for our schools, police, Town Pastors, etc as well as generally for peace in the town ove the weekend and for God's presence here.  Please feel free to come for a short time if that is all you can manage, between 8pm and 11pm.

48 hours of continuous prayer: Thanks to all those who have pledged to pray during a half hour slot on 31st October or 1st November.  The chart is looking good.  However, I still have some gaps to fill and would love to hear from anyone who could take a half an hour at any of the following times:
Friday October 31st: between 1am and 4am
Saturday November 1st between 10.30am and 12.30pm; between 2.30pm and 4pm.
I am very keen to get every gap covered by at least one person!

Town Pastors:
Our new TPs finish their training tonight and join the rotas from this coming weekend.  Please pray particularly for the teams this weekend in the light of last years experiences.  We are expecting to see a big difference as we concentrate the prayer........

Light Parties:
There are various 'alternative to halloween' parties taking place for children at churches around the town on Friday evening; also a 14 - 18 year old event at Orwell (further details from Mark Crawley  markj.crawley@ntlworld.com).  Please pray for these events.

Schools: A lot of our children will be bombarded by Halloween this week - at school, on TV, internet, parties, magazines etc.  Please pray for their protection.  Pray too for those who may suffer peer pressure, or bullying if they make a stand against the culture.

Health:
There are quite a number of Christian leaders suffering health problems at the moment - please pray for healing and protection.  Also on the Town Pastors - we had to cancel a team the Friday before last (only the second time we have ever had to do this) and were down to one pair last Friday too.  Several TPs have been suffering from severe headaches, both before and after shifts, sometimes lasting several days, so please pray about this too.

Thanks everybody, and God bless,
Liz.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.  Lamentations 3:22-23 (RSV)

October has for some time been planned to be a month of prayer for Ipswich.  Now we stand at a time of national and world economic turmoil, so please come and join us on the following dates, as we come together to fix our eyes on Jesus and to cry out to him on behalf of our town and nation.  Now is the time for the Church to arise 'that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might be made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places' (Ephesians 3:10).  We are the people that can make a difference.................

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3

Ipswich in Prayer:
Last year the Halloween / Fireworks period saw a huge rise in criminal damage in the town, and also threatening behaviour towards the Town Pastors. We are praying for change this year. There will also be an opportunity later to sign up for a half hour prayer slot on October 31st or November 1st so we can cover the town in continuous prayer throughout the period.

National Event:
The Stand – Hope for Justice event at NEC, Birmingham on Saturday 8th November 2008. Now is the time for the church to rise up and STAND together in prayer, to cry out to God concerning issues of human trafficking and child exploitation – modern day slavery. We have the opportunity to increase our awareness of what is going on and to learn how we can work together to bring an end to these appalling practices.

Speakers will include Andy Hawthorne, Steve Chalke and Baroness Cox, and the line-up of bands includes Delirious and other well known names – see www.hopeforjustice.org.uk/thestand for full details.

The event takes place from 2pm to 10pm, and there will be food stalls as well as stands relating to the issues of the day.

FIND (Families in Need):
Please pray for the work of FIND. Maureen is asking for churches and schools to be generous in supplying FIND with their harvest festival produce this year. Well dated non-perishable items are requested. Many families are already suffering the effects of the credit crunch and so it is especially important this year that they receive love and kindness from the Christian community. For more details contact Maureen on 833351. FIND are also in need of good quality beds (with fire reg's) and white goods - electric cookers, washing machines.

Prayer points for iscape:
Iscape is a youth club/drop in at Holywells high school run by Hannah (triangle church) and Helen (St Luke's). We have yrs 7,8 and 9 mon-thus and yrs 10,11 on fris. 2:30-5:30pm.
- We have a lovely group of yr 7s that we have been working but want to extend the kind of young people attending the sessions...even if this does mean the more "challenging ones". This may be difficult to cope with so prayer is needed!!!!
- Funding is an issue to so please pray that the project is economically stable
- Entry fees: We have to charge £2 per session which is preventing children from lower income families accessing the project. Please pray that we can find funding for lots of individuals.
- CYM have in the past found it difficult to get into this school but are able to come in through iscape to help with some sessions. This may open doors into other areas of school life.

Who is like you - majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? Exodus 15:11

Yours in Christ, Liz

16 September 2008 - (Church Leaders).

Dear Church leader

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Ephesians 6:12

Please find attached three documents regarding the IIP month of prayer leading up to October 31st.
1) Posters and flyers for two united prayer events - October 1st and October 31st

Please display the posters and encourage your congregations to take part in this and take this call to prayer seriously - details in the letter.

Throughout the month it would be good if churches would focus on this in local prayer meetings etc.

We will also be encouraging 36 hours of continuous prayer throughout the 31st and November 1st (which IBC tell us is the fireworks in the park) and will be asking people / churches to sign up for slots later on.

If anyone cannot download anything and wants it posted, let me know (I am away for a week from Sunday).

Seek the peace and prosperity of the city into which I have carried you.  Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.  Jeremiah 29:7

Yours in Christ, Liz

8 September 2008

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.  Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt.  Test everything.  Hold on to the good.  Avoid every kind of evil.  May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.  May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.  1 thess 5:16 - 24

As the autumn begins and the holiday season fades into distant memory, there are quite a few dates etc to put in diaries for this coming term.  Also, as all the different congregations and Christian initiatives gather momentum again, a number of prayer requests.  Sorry if I have missed sending any over the summer.

Evaluate..informing choice (sex and relationship education in schools). The next training course for those wishing to become evaluate educators is October. No previous schools work experience is required, you need a heart of compassion for young people and a few spare hours in school time. Age is no barrier, currently the team are all women aged 30-60years so we would benefit from some men and younger people to balance the team. Please visit the website to get a taste of what the work involves www.evaluate.org.uk, and contact Michelle Jones to discuss further or apply evaluate.ipswich@ntlworld.com/ 01473 425674. The team is part of Perspectives Pregnancy Crisis centre.

Town Pastors:
We give thanks for a safe summer in the town centre, and that we have been able to keep the shifts going throughout, including an extra shift on A level results night which was lively and good humoured.  On Friday night one pair of TPs reported two separate incidents of young men asking for prayer; it seems to be coming known on the streets now that we are available and willing to pray for people.  Also, police officers have begun calling in at our base at CYM for coffee and a chat from time to time.  We give thanks for all of this.  Please pray for the new intake of TPs this autumn - interviews take place next Monday and Tuesday and training begins on October 4th.  We have had a number of male applicants, which is another answer to prayer.
Please pray for this weekend's shifts:
Friday Sep 12th: Paul Daltry (Team leader - Waterfront); Mark Firmin (Bridge); Terry Crisp (Mistley Free Church); Sheila Aldous (Bethesda); Jean Daltry (Waterfront); Angela Law (Bethesda)
Saturday Sep 13th: Colin Howe (Team leader - Ipsiwhc International); Sam Gibbs (St John's); Yvonne Cross (Rushmere Baptist); Jessica Allen (All Saints)
If you would be interested in joining out prayer team, either to pray at the CYM centre or at home we are recruiting all the time, but would particularly like to get the autumn off to a good start with new pray-ers joining the ranks!

Heart for Ipswich:
Things are progressing with the Heart for Ipswich communication project. The initial aim is to publish a quality magazine containing contributions from many of the across-church organisations in Ipswich, explaining the work they do and outlining their current needs. Copies will be circulated to all local churches, and also contacts in the police, IBC etc.  In parallel with this, a "Network Ipswich" website is being prepared to provide latest news of the Christian scene, together with links to most churches and Christian organisations in the area. The plan is for both of these initiatives to come on stream in January 2009.

As part of this, Ipswich in Prayer has been asked to provide some written contributions, and we are aware of the need for journalistic and sub-editing skills. Please see the attached document.  Do you think you could edit this to make it into an interesting story to capture peoples attention, to take up about one A5 side (thus leaving room for photos) and providing lead in to more info on web site.  If you feel they you be able to contribute in this way, either on a one-off basis, or possibly as a longer term involvement preparing and editing material for the website, please contact Liz. (07867 633672)
Please pray for this project.  If you think you could help in any other way with either the magazine, the web site or to express interest in being on our mailing list etc please contact as above.

Heart for Ipswich & IIP Prayer month: October 2008
Last year there was an enormous amount of criminal damage in Ipswich during the halloween / fireworks in Christchurch Park period at the end of the month.  At the time I approached both IBC and the police and assured them that this year we would pray to see a difference.  Therefore, the challenge has been laid down!  I will be sending details by a further e-mail soon, BUT please be prepared to join us for two united prayer events - on Weds Oct 1st and Fri Oct 31st; to pray individually and in your church groups throughout the month of October (we will be releasing prayer points); to sign up for a half hour prayer slot on October 31st or November 1st so we can cover these two days and nights in continuous prayer.  Publicity to follow asap.

CYM:
On 16th October at 7.30pm at Orwell Church Martin Robinson, head of 'Together in Mission' will speak about how we build churches which effectively communicate the gospel to this generation.

Ormonde Christian Residential Home for the Elderly in Westerfield Road have a vacancy for a committed Christian to act as deputy manager.  Please contact Phil Oliver on 07969 191334

Personal Request:
A Christian family are urgently looking for a flexible short or long term let on a large 2 bedroom or a 3 bedroom house anywhere in Ipswich (unfurnished - up to £650pcm).   If you can help please contact on 07904 619949.

And a personal request from Liz:
Does anybody know of a reliable and trustworthy person who would be available to take a job cleaning for me two or three hours a week? This would free up more time for me.  If so, would love to hear from you / them............. (07867 633672 or e-mail)

Yours in Christ,
Liz
